We’re right in the middle of the holiday season, about two weeks before Christmas. That means that this is a time of consuming more sugar and other high-calorie and unhealthy foods. So I thought this was a good time to talk about what it means to “eat healthy”.
Before I go on, I want to say that I’m not expecting any of you to want to eat only healthy foods around the holidays, or ever! I know that’s not realistic. BMI is a tool that gives you an idea of the risk of your weight when compared to your height. You may have heard of it before, maybe even in your doctor’s office. But what does BMI mean for your health? I want to explain that today because I think it’s a helpful assessment when you’re starting an exercise program. Just remember that one tool can’t tell the whole story.

In my last blog, I talked about how you could get motivated to exercise by tracking your progress. One great way of doing that is by using a heart rate monitor while you work out. I’ve used one for years so I can say firsthand that it definitely helps with long-term motivation.
Motivation to exercise doesn’t just happen magically for most people. You have to use multiple strategies in order to get it and keep it. And one easy way to do that is to track your exercise progress. There are many ways you can do this and I suggest using as many of them as possible! More help equals more success.
Iron is another necessary nutrient for good health. But since nobody really talks much about this mineral (or any others!) we often don’t know it’s an issue until it causes iron-deficiency anemia. Low iron affects our energy levels by causing fatigue and weakness. But there are more symptoms you should also be aware of.
