Vitamin B12 is one of the nutrients we should all understand better as we’re aging. Like other vitamins, if you’ve got enough of it it’s no problem. But if you’re deficient then it can lead to serious complications in your life. B12 has an impact on our health that most people, and even some doctors, are unaware of. Hiking vs walking: how you can benefit from both.
Moving our bodies is important. And the way we move them is even more important for our long-term health. The more variety we give our bodies, the more we challenge them by using different muscles. And more muscle is what we all need for better health!
I started out as a walker years ago but am now much more of a hiker for several reasons. So today I want to tell you about the differences between hiking vs walking and how you can benefit from both activities. Continue reading “Hiking vs walking: how you can benefit from both.”
How important is Vitamin D anyway?
Recently, I’ve been writing about getting enough nutrients in order to achieve optimal health. I already mentioned that one of the more important nutrients to pay attention to is Vitamin D. But just how important is Vitamin D anyway? Continue reading “How important is Vitamin D anyway?”
Spending time with “family” to renew relationships
I believe our health is about much more than just exercise and nutrition. Hopefully, I’m making that clear in my writing! Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. Actually, I believe it’s more important. If our mental health isn’t good, then achieving physical health is nearly impossible. Continue reading “Spending time with “family” to renew relationships”
Vitamin C and its effects on our immunity
Since I just wrote a blog on getting enough nutrients, I thought I needed to expand on why some are particularly important to pay attention to. Vitamin C, or Ascorbic Acid, is one of them. It has many health benefits but it’s especially important during this time of Covid when our immune systems need a boost.
Vitamin C has many effects on our immunity so getting enough of it is imperative. And according to years of research, it could be used in much larger amounts to benefit us in much bigger ways. Continue reading “Vitamin C and its effects on our immunity”
Are you getting enough nutrients for good health?
If you’ve read my About Me page on this website you may already know why I got into this business of fitness and health in the first place. For those of you who didn’t, let me recap. Since my mother died of cancer in 2010, I started researching everything I could about cancer and how to prevent it.
From that education, I learned that the best way to “fix” my health and prevent illness was to focus on natural living. That includes eating a more natural diet, moving more, and getting outside as much as possible. When we do these things we naturally get what we need for better health. I wanted to share that information with others so they could benefit too. Continue reading “Are you getting enough nutrients for good health?”
How alcohol affects weight loss
Since getting into the business of personal training and health coaching, I’ve observed some common thought patterns. I’ve noticed that most people prefer to control their weight with exercise without changing their diets. But weight loss and maintenance are much easier if you start with your diet.
What we’re consuming is where all our calories are coming from in the first place. Exercise is meant to burn off those calories. So common sense says that if we consume fewer calories we won’t have to work as hard later to get rid of them. And alcohol affects weight loss by adding extra calories to our diets on top of what we’re eating. Continue reading “How alcohol affects weight loss”
The many health benefits of meditation
There are many health benefits of meditation but it’s one of those topics that can get some pretty good eye rolls from people! I think this is because most people imagine someone sitting cross-legged with their palms up repeating some weird “mantra” over and over.
That’s one way to do it. But it’s not really what I’m talking about when I bring up meditation! There are much more practical and simple versions of meditation that I want to review here. And I think it can really benefit you with your overall health. Continue reading “The many health benefits of meditation”
How mindfulness can help with weight loss and health
Buddha is not a name but a word that means “a person who is awake”. Are you awake? Or are you running on autopilot most of the time? If you’re awake, then that state of “mindfulness” can help you with weight loss and your overall health. Continue reading “How mindfulness can help with weight loss and health”
Life lessons I learned while hiking
In all of my outdoor adventures, I always learn new lessons. I find that exciting and it keeps me motivated! Hiking is no exception.
